A new morphometric study of Carioca Lake, Parque Estadual do Rio Doce (PERD), Minas Gerais State, Brazil - DOI: 10.4025/actascibiolsci.v32i1.4990 Biological Sciences
Bezerra-Neto, José Fernandes; UFMG; Briguenti, Ludmila Silva; UFMG; Pinto-Coelho, Ricardo Motta; UFMG.
Carioca Lake is located within the limits of the Rio Doce State Park, in the eastern part of the state of Minas Gerais. This park, one of the largest natural reserves of the Atlantic Rain Forest in Brazil, is a hotspot of tropical biodiversity. The purpose of this study was to update existing information on the bathymetry and morphometric features of the lake, using differential GPS (DGPS) technology for data collection, coupled to a digital echo sounder. The bathymetry was based on the acquisition of 1106 points, where the depths as well as the geographic coordinates were obtained. The new study allowed the refinement of existing primary and secondary morphometric data for this lake.

Morphometric Parameters of Erythrocytes in Juvenile Mandarin Ducks Aix galericulata Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.
Prokić,VS; Davidov,I; Belić,B; Novakov,N; Aleksić,J; Lakić,I.
ABSTRACT The morphometric parameters of erythrocytes in Mandarin ducks- Aix galericulata have never been subjected to study even though this species is common in aviculture. The aim of this study is to investigate the morphometric parameters of erythrocytes in juvenile Mandarin ducks. A total of 1500 erythrocytes obtained from thirty Mandarin ducks were analysed. The smears of the peripheral blood were stained using Diff-Quik® stain method, and the length and width of erythrocytes were measured using ImageJ program. The average length of the measured erythrocytes was 11.879 µm. The maximal measured length of the erythrocytes was 16.049 µm, and the minimal measured length was 5.668 µm. The average width of the measured erythrocytes was 6.160 µm. The maximal...

Regression and Simulation Models for Human and Baboon Brain Parameters International Journal of Morphology
Pokhariyal,Ganesh; Hassanali,Jameela.
The variations in morphometric parameter of mammalian brains may be influenced by process of functional complexity, evolution and adaptation. Comparative analysis of linear measurements of cerebrum in the human and baboon has shown morphometric differences. In the present study linear measurements from human and baboon cerebrum (n=10 each) were used to predict various values for human and baboon brain and body parameters through multiple regression models. The average brain weights were found to be 2.08% and 0.84% of the body weights for humans and baboons respectively. The elasticity of regression models revealed that unit percentage increase in Occipital-Frontal (OF) distance would increase the human brain weight by 66.19%, while the baboon brain weight...

Relationship between somatic growth and otolith growth: a case study of the ornate jobfish Pristipomoides argyrogrammicus from the coast of Réunion (SW Indian Ocean) ArchiMer
Mahe, Kelig; Aumond, Yoann; Rabhi, Khalef; Elleboode, Romain; Bellamy, Elise; Huet, Jerome; Gault, M.; Roos, David.
The ornate jobfish Pristipomoides argyrogrammicus Valenciennes 1832 occurs in the Indo-West Pacific Ocean, where it is harvested by small-scale coastal fisheries. Management of this species is hindered by lack of adequate biological data. We sampled a total of 113 individuals from the landings of local artisanal fishers on the island of Réunion (southwestern Indian Ocean), from March 2014 to March 2015. The relationships between two types of body length (total and standard length, cm) and total weight (g) were shown to be significant (p < 0.05). The length–weight relationship was described by a power function, with the scaling factor estimated to be 0.008 and the exponent 3.146. Age was determined using whole otoliths. The von Bertalanffy growth...

The Histological Analysis of the Glenohumeral "Critical Zone" International Journal of Morphology
Naidoo,N; Lazarus,L; Satyapal,K. S.
The arterial integrity of the "critical zone" of the rotator cuff has led to much uncertainty regarding rotator cuff tendinopathy. As the region of the supraspinatus tendon is the most common area affected by impingement, its central aspect is situated approximately 10 mm from the insertion at the greater humeral tubercle. Although many studies have investigated the vascularity of the "critical zone", there still appears to be lack of consensus regarding its extent. Through the employment of gross dissection and standard histology analysis of twenty-five adult bilateral cadaveric scapulo-humeral regions (n = 50), this study aimed to quantify the degree of vascularity, or lack thereof, within the "critical zone" by evaluating its relative morphometric...
